Cape Town has officially been declared Time Out’s Best City in the World for 2025, climbing from its previous second-place position last year. This prestigious recognition highlights Cape Town's allure as a premier destination for tourists and cruise travelers alike.

The award is based on a comprehensive global survey that gathered insights from over 18,500 respondents across 50 cities. The evaluation was conducted using 44 specific criteria, including dining options, nightlife, cultural vibrancy, affordability, overall happiness, and the city’s ambiance. In a competitive field that featured renowned cities such as Bangkok (2nd), New York (3rd), Melbourne (4th), and London (5th), Cape Town shone brightly across all categories.

Time Out commended the city for its exceptional combination of stunning natural landscapes, culinary delights, and convenient travel options, reaffirming its status as an essential destination for travelers in search of diverse and enriching experiences. This accolade reflects Cape Town's unique blend of urban attractions and breathtaking scenery. From the iconic Table Mountain and the picturesque Cape Winelands to its vibrant food scene and dynamic nightlife, the city boasts a rich cultural tapestry that captivates visitors. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing that it resonates deeply with the sentiments of the city’s residents.

“Cape Town is not just a stunning tourism hotspot; it’s the happiness of our residents that truly stands out,” he remarked. Hill-Lewis highlighted that the survey captured the community spirit and the residents' ability to lead fulfilling lives, stating, “We are immensely proud that this was reflected so positively in the feedback.” This honor comes at a time of remarkable growth in the cruise industry, with more than 80 cruise ship visits scheduled this season, expected to welcome over 120,000 cruise tourists to Cape Town. In response to this burgeoning sector, the city has developed a strategic plan aimed at solidifying its reputation as a global cruise destination, aspiring to be recognized not just as Africa's top cruise port but as a world-class port of call.

Cape Town's latest achievement not only boosts its profile as a global travel hotspot but also reinforces its status as a premier destination for cruise travelers. The city’s seamless blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty creates an unforgettable experience, making it an essential inclusion in any travel itinerary and solidifying its role as a gateway to remarkable adventures in Africa.
