Royal Air Maroc will finally land in Israel in March Royal Air Maroc will finally land in Israel in March

Royal Air Maroc has been planning to open a direct route between Morocco and Israel since last year, following the normalisation of diplomatic relations between the two countries. However, the health situation has forced the carrier to review its plans several times.

It is official! Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will inaugurate its Casablanca - Tel Aviv (Israel) route on 13 March 2022. From this date onwards, the carrier will offer four flights per week (Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays). The rotation is likely to become daily depending on demand.

On this 5.20 hour one-way route, RAM will operate its Boeing 737-800 fleet with a dual-class configuration of 159 seats, including 12 in business class.   "This new air route is intended to meet the expectations of the Moroccan community established in Israel, which maintains strong links with its country of origin, as well as all tourists and business travellers between Casablanca and Tel Aviv," says the carrier.

For the inaugural flight, a delegation of Moroccan businessmen will travel as part of an economic mission organised by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM). This Moroccan delegation will be made up of around fifty economic operators representing the various sectors of common interest identified such as tourism, industry, agriculture, technology and innovation, education, health, finance and insurance, renewable energies, mass distribution and textiles. The objective, according to the Moroccan authorities, is to explore ways of strengthening economic and commercial ties and to create strong synergies between the Moroccan and Israeli business communities. Representatives of a number of artistic and cultural institutions will also take part in this inaugural flight.

For the time being, the Moroccan pavilion will be in direct competition with the Israeli companies El Al and Israir, present on this corridor since July 2021. A third Israeli carrier, Arkia, should also cover this corridor as from next month.

It should be recalled that RAM had also announced its intention to open a direct route to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. However, due to the Omicron variant which led to the closure of the borders, the route was not inaugurated on December 19 as planned and is awaiting rescheduling.
