The eThekwini Municipality, the local government body responsible for governing and managing Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, today (07 October 2022) re-opened seven beaches in Durban following improved water quality standards. The decision to open the beaches was taken after recent water tests conducted by experts confirmed that beach water is at an acceptable level for recreational activities.

The following beaches are now open for swimming: Laguna Beach, Country Club Beach, Battery Beach, South Beach, Thekwini Beach, Addington Beach and Point Beach.
Bay of Plenty Beach, North Beach, Wedge Beach, Shaka Beach, Umgababa Beach, Umkomaas Beach, Brighton Beach and Treasure Beach remain open, while Westbrook Beach, Bronze Beach, Umhlanga Beach, Umdloti Beach, Isipingo Beach, Reunion Beach, Pipeline Beach, Amanzimtoti Main Beach, Warner Beach, Baggies Beach, Winklespruit Beach, Garvies Beach and Ansteys Beach remain closed until further notice due to water quality.
