Air Botswana puts its last ATR42-500 on sale Air Botswana puts its last ATR42-500 on sale

The aircraft offered for sale is the last of the ten ATR42-500s formerly operated by Air Botswana, either owned or leased, since 1998.

Air Botswana will permanently dispose of its last ATR42-500 (A2-ABN, MSN 507). A call for tender has been published for this purpose. The tender is open to all interested national and international bidders. It will run until 8 December 2022.

The aircraft concerned, equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW127E engines, is stored in Gaborone. It is 26 years old. It was introduced into the company's fleet in September 2000 after having flown for the American company Continental Express. It was withdrawn from service in June 2019.

Air Botswana's current fleet includes two ATR72-600s and an ERJ 170-100LR. The Botswana government has not yet given up hope of finding an investor to revitalise the national carrier, which has become a major financial burden on the national treasury over the years.
