Metro Express Ltd has confirmed that it is entering the next stage of its ambitious rail expansion project in Mauritius. This exciting new phase, known as Phase 4A, will extend the existing line from Mahatma Gandhi Station in Reduit to St Pierre, adding an additional 5.7km of track and introducing four new stations in Telfair, Data Technology Park, Helvetia, and St Pierre.

The initiative, which follows a rigorous procurement process, has been sanctioned by the government and approved by the EXIM Bank. The renowned engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro Ltd has been entrusted with the implementation of Phase 4A at a fixed cost of USD 220,413,400. The project will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with the existing environment and the addition of 10 new Light Rail Vehicles.

Projected to commence in the near future, the Reduit to St Pierre expansion is set for completion in October 2024. This development will not only connect the east with the Metro Express railway network but also introduce Park and Ride facilities at Telfair, Helvetia, and St Pierre.

This venture promises to significantly improve the connectivity and efficiency of public transport in Mauritius, redefining the way citizens travel and commute.
