TransNamib seeks additional private rail operator for the Ariamsvlei to Luderitz line
TransNamib Holdings has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting an additional third-party private rail operator to operate on the Ariamsvlei to Luderitz line for five years. The line, stretching approximately 752.41 km, boasts the capacity to handle up to 60,000 tonnes monthly. It has an average ton-per-axle capacity of 16.5 in its older sections and 18.5 in the newer areas. Given Namibia's notable gradients, speed restrictions of 15 km/h have been established between Sandvahaar and Bucholzbrunn.
TransNamib Holdings will be hosting a mandatory site inspection in Keetmanshoop on 23 August 2023.
