The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Transport and Institutions in charge of railway safety expects to celebrate the National Railway Safety Week at the grounds of the Tanzania Railway Technology Institute (TIRTEC), in the Tabora region from 09 to 13 October, 2023.
The Government of the Sixth Phase led by Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, recognizes the importance of railway transport and has been allocating funds for the design, construction and repair of railway infrastructure and the operation of railway operations in the country.
The government has overseen the issue of railway safety in the stages of construction as well as operation and strengthening the protection of the railway infrastructure in collaboration with the stakeholders of the transport sector and the citizens in order to control preventable accidents.
Tanzania, as a member country of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), through the Southern African Railways Association (SARA) has been observing and following the Laws and Regulations for the safety of railway operations as well as the resolutions and guidelines of SARA.
To celebrate the Railway Safety Week in October every year, the theme of the celebration for the year 2023 is “SAFETY STARTS WITH YOU; TAKE CARE”.
Stakeholders of Railway transport and citizens especially of Tabora Region and neighbouring regions are requested to come out in large numbers in this celebration to learn and gain an understanding of various issues of Railway safety. Users of Railway services and citizens are encouraged and reminded to be careful, cautious and take safety precautions when using Railway transport services while at train stations, in carriages and even when passing near Railway areas because safety starts with someone personally.
Let’s support the sincere efforts of Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, in ongoing investment to improve the railway infrastructure and grow the economy of Tanzania.
