Zanzibar Airport named one of the best in Africa
On Thursday, an official announced that the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Tanzania's Zanzibar has been recognized as one of the premier airports in Africa.
Seif Abdalla Juma, the director general of the Zanzibar Airports Authority, highlighted that the annual Airport Service Quality awards, presented by the Airports Council International, an organization dedicated to standardizing airport practices worldwide, will significantly bolster foreign tourist arrivals to the Zanzibar Archipelago.
Speaking at a news conference, Juma explained that these awards acknowledge airport excellence, drawing on passenger feedback gathered through daily surveys conducted in departure and arrival areas globally. The accolades encompass a range of categories, including commendations for the most dedicated staff, seamless airport journeys, enjoyable airport experiences, and cleanliness standards.
Juma credited this achievement to various government initiatives aimed at attracting substantial investment into the sector.
Serving as Zanzibar's sole airport, the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport boasts a new terminal constructed by Beijing Construction Engineering Group, a leading Chinese construction firm.
Spanning 25,000 square meters, the terminal features 27 international airline counters, immigration checkpoints, passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling systems, and security facilities, all contributing significantly to the attraction of overseas tourists.
