MMA2: 17 Years of innovation, efficiency, and excellence in Nigerian Aviation
Murtala Mohammed Airport Terminal, MMA2, Nigeria’s premier airport, celebrated its 17th anniversary with a media parley, reflecting on its incredible journey and achievements in the Nigerian aviation industry.
Over the past 17 years, MMA2 has evolved into a symbol of excellence, innovation, and efficiency, achieving numerous milestones that have propelled it to the forefront of the global aviation landscape.
The airport’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has been a key factor in its success, enhancing operational efficiency and fostering collaboration with private entities to deliver world-class services to passengers and stakeholders.
MMA2 has come a long way since its inception, with notable milestones including the departure of Chanchangi Airline Flight NCH 334, which lifted 70 passengers and departed at 17:15 on May 7, 2007.
Today, the airport is home to 10 domestic airlines, including Ibom Air, Valuejet, Air Peace, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, Dana Air, United Nigeria Airlines, Azman Air, Max Air, and Rano Air.
The airport has also made significant investments in infrastructure, including the introduction of a state-of-the-art multi-story car park and the implementation of e-gates at the central screening point, which have streamlined passenger facilitation and enhanced security.
MMA2 has also prioritized sustainability, establishing uninterrupted power supply systems to ensure the airport’s operations remain resilient in the face of unforeseen challenges.
The airport has received numerous accolades and awards, including being recognized as the “Best Airport Terminal of the Year 2023” and “Best Airport Terminal Lounge.” MMA2 has also received the prestigious CSR award for its commitment to promoting safety and wellness.
Speaking at the media parley, the acting chief Operating Officer, Mr. Remi jibodu said, one of the airport’s most notable achievements is the MMA2 Training Center, which provides state-of-the-art facilities and hands-on training by aviation professionals to shape the future leaders of the aviation industry.
Looking ahead, he said, MMA2 plans to embark on an exciting journey of continued growth and innovation, including further expansion of its terminal facilities, implementation of improved technology to enhance security, sustainable initiatives to expand its cargo ecosystem, and the commencement of regional operations from its terminal.
The launch of regional operations, according to him, will provide a single hub for domestic airlines, boost their revenue through transit flights, drive economic growth by creating more jobs, and enhance connectivity. The expansion will open new revenue opportunities, benefiting all stakeholders involved.
As MMA2 celebrates its 17th anniversary, the airport’s management expressed gratitude for the support of its stakeholders and partners, and looked forward to a future filled with limitless possibilities.
Representatives of airlines operating in the terminal, Arik, Aero contractors, Air Peace and Valuejet in their goodwill messages congratulated the management of the terminal on their anniversary and commended them for quality service delivery.
They noted that, MMA 2 manager has continued to consolidate on infrastructure upgrades and modernization of its facilities not compromising on safety and security. The media parley culminated in a tour of the facility with visits to the food court, departure area, screening points, proposed regional terminal, departure, arrival and lounge.
