FAAN introduces measures against harassment and extortion
It would no longer be business as usual for persons involved in touting, extortion, harassment and illicit activities at airports so says, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN, Mrs Olubunmni Kuku. This is because, a taskforce to crack down on these activities has been set up geared towards eliminating these illicit activities.
In a recent interview, Mrs. Kuku expressed her deep concern and emphasize her commitment to creating a seamless and pleasant experience for travelers.
Apart from the taskforce to be chaired by Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties at FAAN, Mrs. Kuku announced her intention to personally engage with all government agencies operating at the airports to ensure compliance with the anti-touting and anti-extortion measures.
Other plans mapped out to handle illegal practices include, establishing magistrate courts at international airports to expedite the legal process for prosecuting offenders and dedicated phone lines and QR codes will be set up to provide passengers with a means of providing feedback on their airport experience.
Mrs. Kuku threatened strict disciplinary actions against anyone including FAAN staff found engaging in illicit practices, adding that that the era of business as usual is over and highlighted the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.
She maintained that, henceforth all airport personnel must prominently display their on-duty cards and name tags for easy identification and accountability.
