From the bustling streets of Nairobi to the serene shores of Mombasa, a group of travel and tour operators, travel marketers, and content creators from West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana to be specific) and South Africa, embarked on a captivating familiarization trip put together by one of Kenya’s premium hotel chains, the Sarova Hotels Group.
This journey, which took place from June 22nd to 26th 2024, was designed to showcase the best of Kenyan hospitality across three of Sarova’s iconic properties: Sarova Panafric, Nairobi, Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa, and Sarova Stanley, Nairobi.
It was a packed six-day odyssey with each day offering a unique blend
of luxury, adventure, cultural, and delectable culinary experiences,
highlighting Sarova’s commitment to exceptional service and
unforgettable stays for its guests.
The trip commenced on June 22nd at Sarova Panafric in Nairobi, where the
group was warmly welcomed by the hotel’s attentive staff. Located in
the heart of Kenya’s vibrant capital and a few minutes’ drive from the
Central Business District, the Sarova Panafrica is an oasis of
tranquility amidst the city’s hustle and bustle. The guests were
immediately impressed by the lush gardens and contemporary African décor
that defines the hotel’s ambiance.
After settling in, the group toured the hotel, exploring its luxurious rooms, modern conference facilities, and serene outdoor spaces. Dinner was a highlight of the evening, served at the Sarova-operated Thai Chi Restaurant. The authentic Thai cuisine, prepared by skilled chefs, was a culinary delight that perfectly blended exotic flavors and impeccable presentation. The evening ended with a sense of anticipation for the adventures to come.
On June 23rd, the group flew to the coastal city of Mombasa and checked into Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa. Nestled along the stunning Indian Ocean coastline, the resort offered a picturesque escape with its white sandy beaches, azure blue waters, and lush tropical gardens.
For the next couple of days, the group members immersed themselves in the resort’s array of activities and amenities. A guided tour of the resort showcased the expansive swimming pools, the rejuvenating Tulia Spa, and the vibrant Coco’s Beach Bar. Each corner of the resort reflected Sarova’s painstaking dedication to creating a luxurious yet welcoming environment.
A city tour of Mombasa provided a rich cultural experience, with visits to historical sites such as Fort Jesus and the bustling markets, where the vibrant local life was on full display. The sea trip and snorkeling adventure in the clear blue waters of the Mombasa coast were undoubtedly the trip’s highlight. The underwater world, teeming with colorful marine life, offered a mesmerizing glimpse into the natural beauty of the region.
Evenings at Whitesands were equally enchanting. Guests enjoyed night cocktails on the windy beach, where the sound of the waves and the full moon in the horizon provided a soothing backdrop. The resort’s nightlife came alive as the group experienced the energetic atmosphere of dancing the night away under the starlit sky. A night life experience at some of Mombasa’s night clubs marked a key part of the familiarization trip.
Returning to Nairobi on June 25th, the group spent their final night
at the historic Sarova Stanley. As one of the city’s oldest and most
prestigious hotels, Sarova Stanley exuded a charm that seamlessly
blended historical elegance with modern luxury. The grand architecture
and timeless décor told stories of a bygone era while offering
contemporary comforts.
A tour of the hotel revealed its opulent suites, the renowned Thorn Tree
Café, and the Exchange Bar, which has been a hub for social and
business gatherings for decades. The dinner at the hotel’s fine dining
restaurant was a gourmet experience, featuring a menu that celebrated
Kenya’s diverse culinary heritage with a modern twist.
