ET celebrates 78th anniversary at Akwaaba African Travel Market
Ethiopian Airlines marked its 78th anniversary in grand style at the 20th Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos, reinforcing its leadership in African aviation and outlining ambitious plans for the future.
During a presentation titled “Ethiopian Airlines: Past, Present, & Future Innovations for Continued Leadership in Aviation,” the airline’s Sales Manager, Mrs. Adetola Alabi, highlighted the airline’s enduring legacy and its path forward.
A major announcement was made regarding the introduction of the Airbus A350-1000 to the Lagos route, set to begin service in November 2024.
New Airbus A350-1000 to Enhance Lagos Fleet
Ethiopian Airlines is gearing up to launch the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000 on its Lagos route, marking a new era for Nigerian passengers.
The aircraft promises enhanced comfort and luxury with wider seats, increased legroom, and advanced in-flight entertainment. In addition, passengers can enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity and a quieter, smoother flying experience, further solidifying Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to technological innovation and customer satisfaction.

Ethiopian Airlines has had a strong presence in Nigeria since 1960, the year of the country’s independence, even maintaining operations through difficult periods such as the Nigerian Civil War.
Mrs. Alabi also emphasized the airline’s major milestones:
International Expansion: Ethiopian Airlines launched its first international flight to Cairo in 1946, laying the foundation for its extensive global network.
Vision 2035: The airline aims to rank among the top 20 aviation groups worldwide by 2035, with plans to serve 209 international and 31 domestic destinations with a fleet of 271 aircraft.
Nigerian Operations: The airline currently flies to four Nigerian cities—Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Enugu—connecting passengers to over 140 global destinations.
Awards and Recognition: Ethiopian Airlines has received numerous accolades, including the U.S. President’s Lifetime Achievement Award and has been named the Best Airline in Africa for seven consecutive years.
