Table Mountain Cableway is temporarily out of service following a fire Table Mountain Cableway is temporarily out of service following a fire

Cape Town's Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has announced earlier today (25 October 2024)  that the Table Mountain Cableway will be temporarily out of service following a fire on 24 October 2024 that damaged the parking garage and administration building at the Lower Station. According to the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Services a burning bank of lithium batteries caused the fire.

Structual engineers are set to arrive this morning at the  Lower Station to investigate the damage caused by the fire. The flames did not reach the machinery that operates the cable cars. However, the cable car service will remain suspended until further notice while the engineers carry out their tests today. The TMACC hopes to provide an update on a possible reopening date as soon as possible.
