Uganda Airlines and Air India Forge Interline Partnership, Unlocking Seamless Africa–Asia Connection Uganda Airlines and Air India Forge Interline Partnership, Unlocking Seamless Africa–Asia Connection

Uganda Airlines has taken a major step in expanding its international reach by signing a strategic interline partnership with Air India, one of Asia’s leading carriers. Officially unveiled on 17 September 2025 in Entebbe, this agreement comes into effect from 25 August 2025 and is set to transform travel options for passengers moving between Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

This partnership enables travellers departing from Entebbe International Airport to connect seamlessly to over 25 destinations across India and beyond, leveraging Air India’s extensive domestic and international network. Key Indian cities now within easy reach for Uganda Airlines’ customers include Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Varanasi, among others.

The agreement is designed to offer greater convenience, flexibility, and a wider range of travel options for both business and leisure travellers across the two continents.

For the sub-Saharan African travel sector, this development is particularly significant. The new interline arrangement positions Uganda as a stronger regional hub, facilitating smoother connections for passengers from across Africa to India and onward to Asia, the Middle East, and even further afield.

This is expected to boost not only tourism but also trade, education, and medical travel between the two regions—areas where demand has been steadily rising.

Uganda Airlines’ CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki, highlighted that the agreement “significantly expands Uganda Airlines’ global footprint, offering its customers convenient access to Air India’s vast network”.The move is in line with Uganda Airlines’ broader strategy to enhance its international partnerships and provide more value to its customers, especially as the airline continues to operate one of Africa’s youngest fleets, including CRJ900LR regional jets and Airbus A330-800 widebody aircraft.

For African travel professionals, this partnership opens up new opportunities to package and promote multi-destination itineraries, streamline ticketing processes, and offer clients a more integrated travel experience. The interline deal is also expected to stimulate competition and innovation in the Africa–Asia travel corridor, encouraging other carriers to pursue similar collaborations.

As Uganda Airlines and Air India embark on this new chapter, the African travel industry stands to benefit from enhanced connectivity, increased passenger flows, and the potential for deeper commercial ties between two of the world’s fastest-growing regions. This partnership is a clear signal that Africa’s aviation sector is ready to play a more prominent role in global travel, with Uganda Airlines at the forefront of this exciting evolution.
