Viking Expands Nile Fleet with Two New Ships Set for Late 2026 Debut
Cruise operator Viking has reached a significant construction milestone for its growing Egypt programme with the float out of two new Nile river vessels at the Massara shipyard in Cairo. The ships, named Viking Ptah and Viking Sekhmet, have now touched water for the first time and will enter the final phase of construction ahead of their planned introduction to service later this year.
The float out ceremony represents a traditional maritime milestone signifying the transition from structural assembly to interior outfitting. Both vessels will now be transferred to a nearby dock where final construction work and interior installation will be completed before delivery. Viking Ptah is scheduled to debut in September 2026, with Viking Sekhmet following in November 2026.

The itinerary begins with a three-night hotel stay in Cairo, providing access to iconic sites including the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sakkara necropolis, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Guests then fly to Luxor, where the river cruise portion commences with visits to the magnificent Temples of Luxor and Karnak.
The eight-day Nile sailing incorporates stops at major archaeological and cultural destinations.
