XEJet Elevates Nigerian Skies with Landmark Boeing Business Jet Acquisition XEJet Elevates Nigerian Skies with Landmark Boeing Business Jet Acquisition

Nigeria's premium private aviation sector has reached a defining moment as XEJet Limited, one of the country's most recognisable boutique carriers, has officially welcomed its first-ever Boeing Business Jet into its expanding fleet. The arrival of the aircraft signals a bold new chapter for the Lagos-based operator, which has steadily built a reputation for delivering high-end charter and business-class experiences to discerning travellers across West Africa.

The newly acquired jet, a Boeing 737 Business Jet variant, is 21 years old and carries a fascinating history. Before joining the XEJet fleet, the aircraft served for years as an official VIP transport for the Nigerian government, ferrying dignitaries and senior officials on state assignments. Its transition from public service to private commercial use represents a noteworthy shift, showing how retired government assets can be repurposed to strengthen the country's fast-growing private aviation industry.

For XEJet, the acquisition is far more than a fleet upgrade. It marks the airline's entry into the Boeing family, complementing its existing line-up of Bombardier CRJ regional jets that have anchored its operations since inception. The carrier, which originally launched in 2021 as a non-scheduled operator, has been on an ambitious growth curve, having already expanded its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to include scheduled services. This has enabled the airline to introduce all-business-class scheduled flights connecting major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano.

Industry observers view the addition of the Boeing Business Jet as a strategic move designed to capture the rising demand for luxury and VIP charter services across sub-Saharan Africa. Business aviation on the continent has been gaining momentum, with executives, government officials, high-net-worth individuals, and multinational corporations increasingly seeking bespoke flying solutions that combine privacy, flexibility, and comfort. By operating a wide-body business jet, XEJet positions itself to serve longer-haul intercontinental missions, opening opportunities for group charters, corporate roadshows, and diplomatic travel that smaller regional jets cannot easily accommodate.

The move also comes at a time when African travel professionals are paying closer attention to the premium segment of the market. With intra-African connectivity still evolving under the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) framework, private and charter operators like XEJet are stepping in to fill capacity gaps that scheduled carriers have not yet fully addressed. For agencies serving high-value clients, this development translates into more options for tailor-made itineraries, incentive travel packages, and executive mobility solutions originating from West Africa.

XEJet's leadership has consistently emphasised that its philosophy centres on safety, security, and comfort, values that have earned the airline a loyal following among corporate travellers and business elites. The airline currently operates a fleet that includes three Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft, two of which are configured with 24 VIP seats while the third carries a 17-seat VIP configuration. The new Boeing jet significantly upgrades that capacity, allowing the airline to serve larger groups with the same standard of onboard exclusivity.

Looking ahead, the addition of a Boeing Business Jet places XEJet in a stronger position to compete not only within Nigeria but also on regional and continental stages. As Africa's aviation landscape continues to modernise, carriers that invest in premium products, diversified fleets, and reliable scheduling are expected to capture the biggest share of the growing business travel pie. For travel professionals across sub-Saharan Africa, XEJet's evolution offers a clear signal that the demand for luxury air travel is not only alive but expanding, and now is the time to align product offerings with clients who value speed, discretion, and exceptional service in the skies.
