Uganda Airlines very first Airbus A330-800 enters assembly
Information has been received that the first of two Airbus A330-800 aircraft, ordered by the Ugandan government for national airline Uganda Airlines, has now entered the assembly phase in Toulouse, one of the main Airbus plants in Europe.
The two aircraft are due for delivery later this year and will join a fleet of four CRJ900 short and medium haul jets, which were delivered last year. While the airline is under compulsory shutdown for scheduled flights, following the decision by the Ugandan government to close Entebbe International Airport for passenger services have test flights been carried out this and last week to ascertain the airworthiness status of the fleet after spending nearly 3 months on the ground. Uganda Airlines has also announced that they will operate a repatriation flight for Ugandans stranded in Southern Africa, due to take place on the 02nd of July on the routing Entebbe – Johannesburg – Entebbe. Additional repatriation flights are being considered subject to permits and bookings for such services.
When the first Airbus will join the fleet in Entebbe are long haul flights planned to such destinations as Dubai, a destination in China and to London, with the latter service possibly having a second stop enroute to its final destination in the UK.
