Eurowings announces Mombasa flights
Eurowings, the leisure arm of the Lufthansa Group, will launch a twice weekly Airbus A330 service from Frankfurt to Mombasa and on to Zanzibar, effective 31st of March 2021.
The announcement was made by Dr. Andre Schultz, Lufthansa’s General Manager Southern Africa and East Africa. The planned launch of the flights will coincide with the traditional low season period which at the Kenya coast extends from the beginning to April to mid July each year. The flights will complement Lufthansa’s regular scheduled flights to Nairobi, which group member Swiss is also serving several times a week.
The additional services to Mombasa are expected to give a boost to Kenya coast tourism and with leisure travel expected to pick up again over the next couple of months, as more uniform health and safety protocols are implemented around the world, are hopes high among coast hoteliers and tourism operators that it will help the country to reclaim lost visitor numbers starting from 2021 again.
