Rwanda to host the African Sports Tourism Week
The organizers of African Sports Tourism Week, the only pan-African sports travel trade event on the continent, have revealed that Rwanda has agreed to host the event in the month of October 2021.
The event which made its humble debut in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2018, was hosted in Accra, Ghana, in 2019. The event was this year expected to be hosted by Kenya, but the COVID-19 pandemic – like it did to most other other M. I. C. E events around the world – prevented it from hosting the sports gala. While making the announcement, Prince Deji Ajomale-McWord, Founder and President of African Sports Tourism Week said “We are very excited about the idea of Rwanda playing host to ASTW 2021. This is a country that’s taking destination branding to a whole new level, with her ‘Visit Rwanda’ brand campaign with Arsenal FC. You’d recall that Rwanda launched a 10,000-seater Kigali Arena in 2019. Senegal will now have to watch her back, as Rwanda is seriously positioning herself as the preferred basketball destination in Africa. Keeping tabs with strides in the country of a thousand hills, I know of their efforts to make Kigali a choice destination for golf travel. What more can we ask for, from a host destination”.
He added that the week activities will experience a little tweak, as the organizers introduce Africa-Diaspora (golf) Matchplay and a novelty soccer match between teams constituted by staffers of government parastatals under the ministries in charge of sport and tourism. “African Sports Destination Awards will also be bigger at the 2021 edition in Rwanda”, he concluded.
