Grumeti Air expands regional
The Arusha-based carrier will offer regular flights between the Serengeti region (northern Tanzania) and Kigali in Rwanda. The route will be operated three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), without competition, by Cessna 208B Grand Caravan.
Returning from Kigali, the flight will only serve Sasakwa, Seronera, Kogatende and Lamai airfields
"However, other stops in the Serengeti region can be assessed on request, on a case-by-case basis," said the carrier. Grumeti Air currently operates domestic flights to Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. In combination with the flight from Kigali, the carrier said it will also add an additional flight three times a week - on the same days - in the late afternoon departing from the Serengeti, which will allow passengers to connect with KLM. or Qatar Airways on their night flights from Kilimanjaro.
Despite the crisis, Grumeti Air provided all of its essential connections in the Serengeti region, albeit at reduced frequencies. Founded and managed by a team that operates lodges in the region, the carrier plays a vital role in promoting Serengeti National Park, one of the largest preserved ecosystems on the planet, covering 25,000 km2 if one includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Masai Mara. Listed as a World Heritage Site, this park is the scene of the largest animal migration still in existence.
