Mauritius Receives 100,000 Doses of the Sinopharm Vaccine Mauritius Receives 100,000 Doses of the Sinopharm Vaccine

Mauritius has received a first delivery of 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China today and confirmed an additional order for 500,000 doses. This will allow the vaccination campaign to progress as planned with a targeted 700,000 people due to be vaccinated for the country to reach herd immunity.

The vaccination campaign is on track and has crossed two important milestones this week. More than 20% of the targeted population has been vaccinated whist second doses are being administered as from this week. Priority is being given to frontline workers, which includes those working in the tourism sector.

Herd immunity has been set as a prerequisite for the restart of tourism as the sanitary safety of residents and visitors is considered of topmost national priority. Mauritius is on track for a phased easing of travel restrictions as from mid-2021.

In the meantime, tourism operators are preparing for the long-expected restart. Promotion and communication campaigns are being deployed on the MTPA’s #MauritiusNow platform, both at  www.mauritiusnow.com and across the various MTPA social media platforms.
