Tourism and Handicrafts Minister Habib Ammar stated on Saturday that "Tunisia is ready to host tourists this summer and during the next winter season, thanks to the health protocol set up in the sector." In a statement to the media on the fringes of a working visit to the governorate of Tozeur, the minister said that "Tunisia is a COVID-safe tourist destination," assuring that the health protocol "has already proved its efficiency in 2020," in addition to the fact that it has been approved by foreign tour operators.

He pointed out that all efforts are underway to gradually relaunch tourism in Tunisia, after a 12-month suspension, stressing that the objective is to make 2022 an "exemplary" tourist year. He indicated in this regard, that the department is currently consulting with the traditional markets such as Western European countries, while waiting for the latter to reopen their borders.

Ammar also recalled that Tunisia had welcomed more than 90 flights, with over 14,000 Russian tourists and others of European nationality on board.
