Breaking news: Dubai to welcome vaxxed South Africans
Dubai has announced (on Saturday June 19), the easing of restrictions for passengers from South Africa, who are fully vaccinated with two doses of a vaccine approved by the UAE Authorities.
The announcement, issued by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management will take effect on June 23.
These passengers originating in SA will need to carry a negative test result from a PCR test taken within 48 hours before departure, but UAE citizens are exempt from this requirement.
On arrival at Dubai Airport, passengers will be required to undergo another PCR test.
Transiting passengers will need to comply with the entry protocols of their final destinations.
Emirates, Dubai’s national carrier, suspended its passenger services between South Africa and Dubai on January 16, 2021, and then later reinstated daily flights between Johannesburg and Dubai, with only flights inbound to SA allowing eligible passengers onboard, and the outbound flights for cargo only with no passenger uplift. The latest extension of the ban said there will be no outbound passengers until July 6, but it is likely to change in view of the new announcement about vaccinated South Africans being allowed into Dubai from June 23.
