Costa Cruises set to debut brand new ship Costa Firenze in Savona July 4th Costa Cruises set to debut brand new ship Costa Firenze in Savona July 4th

Costa Cruises will sail a maiden voyage from Savona, Italy aboard Costa Firenze on July 4th, marking the ship’s official entry into service ahead of her 2021/22 cruise season out of Dubai. The announcement was made Friday in the port of Savona as Costa Cruises introduced Costa Firenze, the newest ship in its fleet, to the world for the first time.

Costa Firenze was designed and built by Fincantieri at its Marghera shipyard in Italy. She is inspired by the Florentine Renaissance with an interior intended to evoke Florentine streets and town squares. The central ‘Piazza della Signoria’ atrium for example, pays homage to the Florentine square, as do many of her dining options, such as the Fiorentina Steak House, which offers some of the best Tuscan meats, and the Frescobaldi wine experience.

“Costa Firenze’s concept is inspired by an iconic city, which represents Italian art, taste and refinement in the world’s collective imagination,” said Mario Zanetti, Costa Cruises President. “We designed this ship to offer our guests a unique experience, especially for families and couples,” he added.

Costa Firenze’s maiden voyage Sunday will be the first in her inaugural season of week-long Italy-intensive cruise itineraries, with the ship visiting six different Italian destinations: Savona, Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Catania, Palermo and Cagliari.

From the end of July to the end of August, Valletta in Malta will be added to the itinerary, and from September 12th, she will also call in France, visiting Marseille, as well as Spain, with port calls in Barcelona and Ibiza.

This inaugral Mediterranean cruise season comes ahead of Costa Firenze’s repositioning to the Arabian Gulf, where she will spend the winter 2021/22 cruise season, sailing roundtrip out of Dubai.

These one-week itineraries in the Middle East will visit Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Muscat. The ship will stay overnight in Dubai during each cruise, and the cruise line has confirmed it will offer specific packages for visiting the Expo Dubai.

Costa Firenze will become a true platform for promoting the city of Florence around the world, particularly during Expo 2020 Dubai,” said Zanetti. Costa Firenze will be one of five cruise ships homeporting in Dubai for the 2021/22 cruise season, joining Mein Schiff 6, MSC Virtuosa, MSC Opera and AIDAnova.

MSC Virtuosa, AIDAnova and Costa Firenze in particular are very exciting additions to the Dubai cruise sector, because they are all near-brand new and are among the largest cruise ships ever to homeport in Dubai, with the greatest array of on-board features and amenities.
