Two New Tram Extensions To Strengthen The Rabat-Salé Urban Network Two New Tram Extensions To Strengthen The Rabat-Salé Urban Network

The two extensions of line 2 of the Rabat tramway are now in commercial service.

As part of the construction of the 7 km extension for each of the line 2 extensions, Alstom supplied 22 Citadis X02 trams. As a reminder, this order was awarded to it by the Société du Tramway de Rabat-Salé (STRS) in 2017.

The 22 new trains whose production of wiring and electrical cabinets was carried out on the Alstom site in Fez, will be added to the 44 trains in circulation since May 2011.

Aiming to strengthen the urban network, the two new extensions will thus allow citizens to improve their mobility between Rabat and Salé and offer them a more fluid circulation as well as a living environment resolutely turned towards the future.

After almost 10 years of operation, the Citadis Alstom tramway has become an essential means of transport which meets a growing demand for mobility in the Rabat-Salé Témara conurbation and which currently has more than 260 million passengers.

Alstom has been present in Morocco for a century. With more than 500 employees, Alstom has carried out several key projects, including the delivery of 190 Citadis X02 trams to the cities of Rabat (66 trams) and Casablanca (124 trams), 12 Avelia Euroduplex trains for the high-speed line which connects Tangier to Casablanca and 77 Prima locomotives providing the best solutions for freight, passenger and mixed transport services.

Thanks to the new factory in Fez, Alstom can increase the production of cables for railway applications, electrical boxes and on-board transformers which are supplied to its European factories and then mounted on trains exported around the world.
