Royal Air Maroc leases two Airbus A330-300 for Hajj operations
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is at the heart of operations for the transport of Moroccan pilgrims to the holy places of Islam. For the Hajj 2022, the carrier has made available two Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
The two aircraft (MSN 786, EC-NOG; MSN 1600, EC-NTY) have been chartered from the Spanish private company Wamos Air. Since 22 June, they have been operating on the Medina and Jeddah routes, departing from the Moroccan cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Oujda and Agadir.
In addition to these two special rotations, RAM also offers a regular route to Jeddah from Casablanca, operated by Dreamliner 788. It is in competition on this route with Saudi Arabia.
According to the Royal (Moroccan) commission in charge of the pilgrimage, the duration of stay in the holy places, for this 2022 edition, will not exceed 25 days. A total of 33 flights are scheduled until July 3.
The Hajj pilgrimage will take place from 7 to 12 July 2022 and was severely curtailed in 2020 and 2021 as Saudi Arabia did not allow Muslim pilgrims from other countries to attend. In 2019, nearly 2.5 million pilgrims attended the Hajj, of which 1.85 million arrived in Medina and Jeddah by air. For the 5 Maghreb countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania), only 44,177 pilgrims are allowed to make the Hajj this year.
