Airlink signs for three Embraer ERJ195s to Nordic Aviation Capital
South African private carrier Airlink is currently the largest operator of Embraer aircraft in Africa with around 50 aircraft in its fleet.
Airlink continues to grow its fleet. The South African carrier will soon introduce three. Embraer ERJ195 aircraft into its fleet. This is part of a lease agreement with Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), the lessor announced.
This addition of capacity will allow Airlink to cover the growing post-Covid19 demand, but also to sustainably fill the market share left by its compatriot Comair, which went bankrupt last month, after 79 years of existence, including 74 years of profitability. With its 4,260km (2,300nm) range, the ERJ195 is also expected to open up new destinations beyond Airlink's core Southern African market.
NAC is currently Airlink's largest lessor, with sixteen ERJ190s leased to the airline. According to ch-aviation's advanced fleet module, Airlink has 57 aircraft, of which 51 are Embraer aircraft: seventeen ERJ135s, eleven ERJ145s, three ERJ170s, and twenty ERJ190s.
Launched in 1992, the carrier has the largest route network in Southern Africa, serving more than 30 destinations in ten African countries and the island of St. Helena, carrying nearly 2 million passengers per year.
