Afrijet adds a new ATR72-600 to its order book
On Wednesday 20 July, on the third day of the Farnborough Airshow, ATR announced the completion of the sale of a new ATR 72-600 to Afrijet. The aircraft will be delivered to the Gabonese company by the end of the year, the Franco-Italian manufacturer said.
This new aircraft is in addition to the firm order for three aircraft of the type, announced at the Dubai Air Show in November 2021. A first module was delivered last month (MSN 1646). Afrijet still has an option clause for another aircraft.
Its current fleet consists of two ATR72-600s. With the current order, the carrier will reach six units by 2023. This number will "allow the opening of new routes and increase the frequency of flights".
"Regional connectivity has an important impact on local economies and community integration. To be effective in Africa, an aircraft must be cost effective, reliable and versatile. Furthermore, the unique terrain in which Afrijet operates includes the Congo Basin forest, which is the second largest tropical forest in the world after the Amazon. All the more reason to choose the most responsible aircraft on the market to ensure these essential connections," commented Marc Gaffajoli, Executive Chairman of Afrijet.
The company also owns an ATR42-500 and two ATR72-500 aircraft, one of which (MSN 833) is currently being converted into a freighter.
