ASKY Airlines takes delivery of a 5-year-old Boeing 737-800, the first of its kind to be registered
ASKY Airlines continues its great adventure in the African sky. Backed by an ambitious business plan, the pan-African carrier continues to expand its fleet. It now has 12 aircraft in 12 years of existence.
ASKY Airlines' fleet now comprises a homogeneous fleet of 12 Boeing aircraft. Indeed, the private flag received this Friday, September 2, 2022, at the airport of Lome-Tokoin (its hub), a new 737-800, from Addis Ababa. "This modern aircraft will be used to improve connectivity, increase frequencies and open new routes across the region (West and Central Africa, editor's note)," explains the pan-African carrier. The aircraft (MSN 43422) was acquired, via its strategic partner Ethiopian Airlines, from Irish lessor AerCap. The five-year-old aircraft was previously operated by Myanmar National Airlines.
Unlike the eleven other aircraft registered in Ethiopia, this one carries a Togolese registration: 5V-TTV. It becomes the first aircraft of its type to be registered in the West African country.
This is the third Boeing 737-800 that the airline has introduced since the beginning of the year, following those introduced in February (ETAYU, MSN 37755) and May (ETAPM, MSN 40962). In April, the company withdrew from its fleet a 737-700 (MSN 33786) which had reached the end of its lease. The aircraft has been in operation since May 2018 and has been returned to its owner, the American lessor AAR Aircraft Sales & Leasing.
ASKY Airlines now has four 737-700s and eight 737-800s. From Lomé-Tokoin airport, the private airline serves some twenty destinations in West and Central Africa, as well as South Africa.
