ProFlight Zambia makes Malawi its second international destination
Operating since 2011, ProFlight Zambia has so far been heavily focused on the domestic market. The Zambian private carrier is now eyeing the international niche where there is competition.
On 1 June 2023, ProFlight Zambia is expected to launch a Lusaka - Mfuwe - Lilongwe route. The private carrier is planning three weekly flights (Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday) from the Zambian capital and city to the Malawian capital, reports Aeroroutes. The route will be operated by a 29-seat Jetstream J41, configured as a single class.
Once operational, ProFlight Zambia will compete with Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, which fly directly from Lusaka to Lilongwe. Lilongwe would become ProFlight Zambia's second international destination, after Johannesburg in South Africa.
Based at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, the private carrier mainly serves Zambian cities (Mansa, Solwezi, Ndola, Jeki, Mfuwe, Livingston and the Lower Zambezi National Park).
Between July 2018 and January 2019, it served Harare, the Zimbabwean capital. The corridor was suspended due to the blocking of its revenues in Zimbabwe and was never reopened.
The company operates a fleet of five aircraft (1 CRJ-100, 1 CRJ-200, 3 Jetstream 41), with an average age of 26.8 years.
