More than 250 regenerative tourism initiatives analysed
FiturNext, the FITUR Observatory dedicated to promoting good tourism practices in terms of sustainability, has closed the call for initiatives for the 2023 Challenge dedicated to how tourism can contribute to the regeneration of the natural environment.
More than 250 initiatives have been analysed by the Observatory and 9 of them will be finalists and three will become the winners of this next edition to be held between 18 and 22 January at the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR).
Three themes for addressing regenerative tourism Sustainability and respect for the destination are some of the main focuses of regenerative tourism, which aims, among other things, to leave the place where the activity takes place better than it was. All of this is carried out with the active participation of residents and visitors. During the progress of the research, some of the themes that encompass the services and values of the projects analysed have been defined:
Regeneration of the territory: Destinations that have a positive impact on the natural environment through collaboration with residents. Waste collection: The local community and visitors contribute to improving the environment while engaging in sporting activities and reusing collected materials. Nature restoration: Tour operators helping to restore mangroves, dunes and coral reefs as part of their commitment to positive impact.
Around 1,000 initiatives analysed over the course of FiturNext This is the fourth edition of the Observatory, which already has a long history and recognition in the responsible tourism industry. Over the past few years, FiturNext has analysed around 1,000 initiatives that address good sustainable practices in their destinations.
In addition, Ideas for Change, coordinators of the Observatory, and FITUR, have organised a series of webinars on past and future editions focusing on regenerative tourism, which have hosted numerous experts and panellists from the sector on gender inclusion, accessibility and sustainability. Looking ahead to November, the team will hold a new online session that will continue to focus on tourism as a vector for positive change.
