Royal Caribbean sees biggest booking day in history on Icon of the Seas demand
Royal Caribbean International has reported its best booking day in history on the back of the opening of bookings for its upcoming new ship Icon of the Seas. When reservations opened for Icon of the Seas, the cruise line saw more demand than on any other single day in its 53-year history.
Icon of the Seas is a 250,000-gross ton mega ship, and will be the largest in the world when she is delivered in late 2023, with her first cruises scheduled for the beginning of 2024.
“The enthusiasm and excitement for Icon are undeniable in more ways than one,” said Michael Bayley, President & CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “The incredible response we have received from our loyal guests, vacationers new to cruising, crew members and travel partners continues to come in, and this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to share more of what Icon has in store in the coming months,” he added.
Details released about the ship thus far suggest she will be one of the most ambitious cruise ships ever built for Royal Caribbean, with a double occupancy of 5,610 passengers, several dozen dining options, 40 cafes and bars, the largest waterpark at sea, as well as an on-board theme park, beach retreat, resort, and 28 cabin categories.
The ship will feature the same neighbourhood zoning as that found aboard the ‘smaller’ Oasis-class ships, but with the addition of an extra one, bringing the total number of neighbourhoods to eight instead of seven.
The Royal Promenade, Central Park and Suite neighbourhoods common to the Oasis class will be reprised aboard Icon of the Seas, but with a number of enhancements. The Royal Promenade has been made grander with floor-to-ceiling ocean views, plus more than 15 restaurants, cafes, bars and lounges; Central Park has more ways to dine and be entertained, and a five-deck living plant wall, as well as 20% more trees.
The Suite Neighborhood has been expanded to four decks and features a multilevel suite sun deck – The Grove, complete with a private pool, whirlpool and two-story Coastal Kitchen.

Icon of the Seas will sail year-round, 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami.
Each itinerary will visit Royal Caribbean’s destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay, The Bahamas, and a mix of destinations like Cozumel, Mexico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Basseterre, St. Kitts.
