Air Mauritius returns to Malaysia and Australia after a 2-year absence
In 2020, Air Mauritius suspended its routes to Malaysia and Australia, due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. But despite the lifting of these restrictions, the Mauritian national airline took its time before reopening its two routes.
Air Mauritius is back in Malaysia. Since this Monday, October 31, 2022, the carrier offers two weekly flights (Monday and Thursday) between Port Louis-Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (its base) and Kuala Lumpur.
The service is operated by Airbus A330-900, with a capacity of 288 seats (28 in business class and 260 in economy). Air Mauritius has no competition on this route, launched in 1998.
Before its suspension due to my COVID-19 pandemic, it served it in code-share with Malaysia Airlines. "Mauritius is an upcoming destination for Malaysians, while Kuala Lumpur is among the favorite getaway destinations for Mauritians. Air Mauritius is in the process of reactivating its collaboration with Malaysia Airlines, and we hope to offer our passengers, in the near future, connections to a number of destinations in Asia and Australia, via the important hub of Kuala Lumpur," promises Air Mauritius CEO Laurent Recoura in a statement
The state-owned flagship is also back in Australia, with two weekly flights (Tuesday and Saturday) between Port Louis and Perth, effective since Tuesday November 1. The route is also served by Airbus A330-900s, and once again as a monopoly. Inaugurated in 1991, it was previously offered as a codeshare with Virgin Australia.
"Mauritius has proven to be a world within an island. Its exotic mix of French, African, Chinese and Indian culture, white sandy beaches and exhilarating adventure make it a destination of choice for Australians. It is also an opportunity to catch up on lost time and embark on a memorable journey, while reconnecting with friends and family," says Mr. Recoura.
