Ibom Air sécurise deux A320ceo pour soutenir son expansion
Ibom Air started commercial operations on 7 June 2021. Based in Uyo in south-eastern Nigeria, it serves half a dozen domestic routes. After 3 years of operations, it is now eyeing the regional market.
Ibom Air is boosting its capacity in anticipation of the increase in traffic expected from next month. The Akwa State-based carrier Ibom will soon take delivery of two Airbus A320ceo aircraft.
The two aircraft (MSN 2584, 4273), currently parked in Vilnius, are being acquired under an ACMI contract with GetJet Airlines, a Lithuanian aircraft leasing and charter company. The aircraft are owned by US lessor World Star Aviation.
Ibom Air currently has five CRJ900s, deployed on seven domestic routes. Earlier this year, it said it planned to open its first routes outside Nigeria in the fourth quarter. In addition to West Africa, it also aims to serve Central Africa (Libreville in Gabon, Douala in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea), and eventually East Africa.
Its order book also includes ten Airbus A220-300s. Ibom Air is familiar with this aircraft, having operated two of them last year under a lease agreement with EgyptAir. In addition to increasing the size of its fleet, Ibom Air is also building its MRO centre, which will be delivered by 2023/24.
