Afrijet (finally) returns to São Tomé after nine-month suspension
Afrijet has served São Tomé regularly for the past six years. However, in the first quarter of the year, the private Gabonese company, which is IOSA certified, left this market due to the deterioration of the business climate.
Since 1 December 2022, Afrijet has re-launched its route between Libreville and São Tomé. The Gabonese private carrier currently offers three flights per week to the Central African island country. The route is operated with its ATR72-600 fleet.
Afrijet is in competition with Asky Airlines, which entered the corridor last October.
Afrijet suspended its service to São Tomé at the end of March. The Gabonese carrier had justified this measure by the deterioration of "safety and security conditions on the São Tomé platform, as well as a hostile airport climate with regard to its staff". It also claimed to be a victim of "slanderous statements made [...] by the officials of ENASA - the airport operator of São Tomé".
Apart from São Tomé, Afrijet also serves Douala and Yaoundé in Cameroon, Bata and Malabo in Equatorial Guinea, Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire in Congo, and Cotonou in Benin. Its active fleet includes three ATR72-600s and one ATR72-500.
