Rwanda slashes gorilla-trekking fees for its residents Rwanda slashes gorilla-trekking fees for its residents

Rwanda is slashing the price of gorilla-trekking permits to $500 for those who reside in that country in an effort to aid tourism recovery.

The permit fees had been priced at $1,500 for Rwandans and international visitors alike. The higher fee still applies for visitors to Rwanda.

All promotional gorilla-trekking permits for the peak season between June and September must be purchased at least a month before the traveler's trekking date.

The Rwanda Development Board has also created flexible booking terms for gorilla-trekking permits during the current off-peak season, enabling travelers to reschedule their gorilla visits free of charge.

Free rescheduling is only available for trips that need to be moved due to Covid-related issues. Changes can be made for travel until June 30. After that date, a rescheduling fee of 20% will apply.
