Emirates celebrates 25 years of operations to Malta
Emirates celebrated its 25th anniversary of service to Malta this week, marking a significant milestone for the airline. Since its inception in 1998, Emirates has transported nearly 1.1 million passengers on over 12,700 flights, making it one of the few travel destinations outside of Europe and the furthest east-bound route from Malta.
To commemorate this occasion, Emirates' Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for Europe and the Russian Federation, Thierry Aucoc, and Country Manager Paul Fleri Soler hosted a conference attended by Malta's Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Hon. Aaron Farrugia, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection, Hon. Clayton Bartolo, CEO of Malta International Airport, Alan Borg, and Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Charles Pace. During the event, Aucoc highlighted the airline's noteworthy accomplishments and contributions to Malta's travel and tourism industry.
Emirates' network has grown from just over 40 destinations to more than 130 across six continents, including 30 points in Asia and 20 points across the Americas, as well as interline and codeshare agreements with 27 other carriers. The airline is a significant contributor to Malta's economy, employing over 60 Maltese nationals in a range of positions, including flight deck crew and its own local office. Additionally, Emirates SkyCargo offers vital trade links for the transportation of essential goods such as food and medical supplies.
Emirates has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malta's global network, providing world-class services and award-winning products. The airline operates modern, wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft, the largest scheduled passenger planes ever to serve Malta, and offers the First Class product in the market, making it the only air carrier to do so. Over 27,000 Emirates Skywards members are officially registered in Malta, further expanding the offerings of the airline's award-winning loyalty program
