A new look Africa’s Travel Indaba launched
Africa's Travel Indaba is poised to energize attendees from around the world with its fresh new look when it kicks off in Durban from May 8th to May 11th. At a launch event held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, new Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille, tourism industry leaders, and members of the media marked the countdown to the event, which promises to feature a jam-packed schedule with a stronger focus on networking and maximizing business opportunities for exhibitors and buyers alike.
With the COVID-19 pandemic having impacted Africa's tourism industry significantly, Minister de Lille emphasized the critical role that Africa's Travel Indaba plays in the sector's recovery and growth.
This year's edition of Africa's Travel Indaba will feature both iconic and new events, with small and medium-sized enterprises from South African provinces showcasing their products and experiences to delegates. Established businesses from across the African continent will also be exhibiting, while some attendees will participate in pre- and post-tours to explore the province's tourism offerings. The event is expected to contribute more than R130 million to Durban's GDP and create over 250 job opportunities, with a projected hotel occupancy rate of 90%.
According to Acting CEO of Tourism KZN Nhlanhla Khumalo, KwaZulu-Natal is well-equipped to host Africa's Travel Indaba 2023, with over 20 years of experience in hosting the event and a range of accommodation options within reasonable proximity of the convention center. A panel discussion during the launch event underscored the value of the event for the tourism sector's recovery, with representatives from various industry organizations extending an invitation to buyers and delegates worldwide. The previous edition of Africa's Travel Indaba in 2022 attracted over 5,500 delegates and 634 exhibiting businesses from 19 African countries.
