Spain high on The Gambia’s tourism radar
The Gambia is targeting Spain as a significant source market for
international tourism and is taking steps to increase its visibility and
interest among potential visitors.
The Director General of the Gambia
Tourist Board, Abubakar Camara, revealed that Spain is becoming one of
the country's most crucial source markets, and they are performing well,
despite only having one flight to the region. The Gambia is taking
several measures to capitalize on this opportunity, including appointing
a Director of Tourism Promotion and working with the Gambian embassy in
Spain to mobilize the Gambian diaspora to promote the country.
They are also in talks with airlines to increase air connectivity between Spain and the Gambia. The Gambia is diversifying its tourism offerings to meet changing demands and is selling eco-tourism, river-based tourism, community-based tourism, and food tourism alongside its popular beach tourism. The country offers visa-on-arrival for tourists and has revised health protocols to exempt visitors from COVID-19 tests or proof of vaccination.
