WTTC CEO on why Rwanda is host of its 2023 Global Summit
In 2023, the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Global Summit will be held in Africa for the first time, with Rwanda as the host country. The decision to hold the summit in Rwanda was announced at the WTTC’s Global Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December of last year. Julia Simpson, the President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council, confirmed the news in an interview with VoyagesAfriq, praising Rwanda's growth in nature conservation and tourism.
The summit, which is the most significant travel and tourism event of the year, is scheduled to take place from November 1-3, 2023, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. As the home of the International Gorilla Conservation Programme, Rwanda is expected to showcase the importance of sustainable tourism in protecting biodiversity and promoting thriving communities. The summit will bring together influential business leaders and government officials to coordinate efforts to support the industry's recovery and advance towards a safer, more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.
