Air Algérie wants to take up to 25 aircraft
The airline Air Algérie should acquire eight Boeing 737 MAX 9, five Airbus A330-900 and two A350-1000. And while waiting for unspecified but probably distant deliveries, it will also lease for five years ten aircraft, A330-200 or -300, A330neo, 737-800 and MAX 9.
A 'provisional allocation' notice was published by the Algerian national airline on 28 April 2023 on the renewal of the fleet, with the medium-haul aircraft remaining with Boeing and the long-haul with Airbus. Air Algérie intends to acquire eight 737-9s "with a capacity of between 170 and 200 seats", five A330-900s to accommodate between 280 and 320 passengers, and two A350-1000s with a capacity of 350 to 450 seats. No firm order or commitment at this stage, therefore, nor a date for deliveries, which in any case should not begin for another five years.
In the meantime, Air Algerie has launched a call for tenders for "the operational leasing of a fleet of up to 10 aircraft", with a maximum duration of five years: in this case, six wide-body aircraft (four A330s and two A330-900s), and four single-aisle aircraft (two 737-800s and two MAX 9s). Bids from leasing companies are due by 22 May, with the aircraft to be used during the summer season.
Based at Algiers-Houari Boumediene airport, the national airline also intends to charter two aircraft just for this summer season, one wide-body and one single-aisle aircraft. It currently has a fleet of 55 aircraft (40 in service according to Planespotters), with an average age of 15.2 years, that is to say fifteen ATR 72s, eight A330-200s and 32 737s (-600, -700 and -800).
