Zambia gears up for Maiden Tourism & Hospitality Education Summit
The Ministry of Arts and Tourism in Zambia is taking significant steps towards transforming the tourism sector by organizing the inaugural Tourism Travel and Hospitality Education Summit. This summit aims to equip the industry with the necessary tools to adapt to the evolving nature of the field.
Scheduled to span three days, from May 22nd to 24th, the summit will be held in the capital city, Lusaka. Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, announced the launch of this event, highlighting its importance through the participation of senior representatives from foreign missions and agencies accredited to Zambia, as well as executives from the hospitality, financial, and aviation industries.
Minister Sikumba expressed that the Education Summit is a key initiative of the government, as education plays a vital role in creating equal opportunities. He also revealed that Mrs. Elcia Grandcourt, the Africa Director of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), will be participating in the event. The summit is designed based on the recently introduced UNWTO Tourism Education Guidelines.
The Zambia Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS), operating under the Ministry of Tourism, will play a central role in anchoring the Education Summit.
