Silversea takes delivery of Silver Nova, the first in a new class of luxury vessels Silversea takes delivery of Silver Nova, the first in a new class of luxury vessels

Silversea has taken final delivery of its new luxury cruise ship Silver Nova, the class leader in a new series of expeditionary vessels for the cruise line. The handover took place on Wednesday, July 19 in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, where the ship was built by Meyer Werft.

Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO, Jason Liberty, joined the President of Silversea, Barbara Muckermann, executives from Meyer Werft, and other guests to officially welcome Silver Nova as the 12th ship in the Silversea fleet.

Silver Nova marks an important milestone on Royal Caribbean Group’s journey to achieving net zero emissions, according to the company, as she is one of the most environmentally-friendly cruise ships built to date. Silver Nova will have three sources powering its engines, including the ability to plug into shore power while docked. This means that in each destination, the vessel aims to emit zero emissions.

For future Nova Class vessels, sustainable materials will be incorporated into the ships’ interior design.

“She is a beauty, and I can’t wait to personally greet out guests on board, introducing them to the future of ultra-luxury cruise travel,” says Barbara Muckermann, the president of Silversea.

Apart from her environmental credentials, Silver Nova also marks a step-change in design for Silversea, as she is the first horizontally-designed vessel in the fleet, meaning her staterooms and public spaces extend across entire decks, rather than being split between fore and aft.

This layout, which mirrors most conventional cruise ships, means more square footage to accommodate the plush lounges and bars and restaurants.

Silver Nova offers guests a variety of dining and beverage venues including The Grill, Atlantide, The Terrazza, a S.A.L.T. kitchen and Kaiseki, a restaurant specializing in Asian delicacies.

Bringing key structural elements toward the inside of the ship also allows  more seamless integration between the outside  elements and interior of Silver Nova. Floor-to-ceiling glass will form many of the structural but see-through “barriers” around the decks, which means unimpeded views.

Silver Nova will welcome the first guests onboard for a 7-day roundtrip maiden voyage from Venice departing on Monday, August 14th.

Silver Nova will then begin a season of Mediterranean cruises, departing from Venice, Italy; Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy; Monaco; Barcelona, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal.
