Green Aviation Leap: Nigeria’s pledge for sustainable growth
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo stresses Nigeria’s dedication to sustainable aviation fuels, emphasizing cleaner, renewable options aligned with global standards. In a pivotal cleaner energy meeting, he details steps to cut carbon emissions, highlighting the development and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Low Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF).
During the meeting, Keyamo shares, “SAF holds the greatest potential to cut CO2 emissions from international aviation.” This declaration underscores Nigeria’s role in supporting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and sets a precedent for other African nations to embrace a low-carbon economy.
Musa Nuhu, the Director General of Civil Aviation, acknowledges the nascent stage of the global aviation fuel industry. Seeking stakeholder support, Nuhu emphasizes the need for a common national policy. He states, “Developing and deploying LCAF and SAF positions Nigeria favorably to fulfill its LTAG pledge.”
Nuhu underscores the importance of collaborative efforts, dynamic policies, and an effective regulatory framework. He sees this as an opportunity for Nigeria to meet environmental goals and also to develop a green economy sector.
