AWA celebrates 4 millionth passenger and marks milestone in aviation history
Africa World Airlines marked a significant milestone on October 31, 2023, when Mr. Rodney Olusola Adewole became their 4 millionth passenger since the airline’s establishment in September 2012.
Mr. Adewole, who had checked in at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, received a warm welcome at Kotoka International Airport’s T3 arrival area. As part of the celebration, he was presented with AWA’s miniature aircraft and four return tickets to any of the airline’s destinations.
During the event, Captain Kwasi Oteng, the Chief Operating Officer, delivered an opening speech, emphasizing that the 4 millionth passenger represented more than just a statistic. He described it as a symbol of trust, support, and the relationships that had been built over the years. Captain Oteng underscored the airline’s commitment to excellence and hinted at an exciting new chapter in the airline’s journey.
Capt. Oteng also expressed AWA’s dedication to raising the bar, providing exceptional service, and creating more memorable moments for passengers.
Hon. Alhaji Hassan Suleman Tampuli, the Deputy Minister for Transport, delivered a keynote address, highlighting AWA’s status as the leading airline in Ghana with the highest market share.
He mentioned Ghana’s participation in the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), which aims to reduce taxes for air travel within African countries.
Alhaji Tampuli encouraged AWA to capitalize on this agreement to enhance connectivity in the African region, suggesting the acquisition of more fleet, increased flight frequency, and network expansion.
The awardee, Mr. Adewole, expressed his surprise and gratitude during a mini durbar organized in his honor at Kotoka International Airport’s arrival hall.
He praised AWA’s reliability and commitment to safety standards, which had led him to choose the airline for his travels.
The event was graced by notable figures, including the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Director of Economic Regulations of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited. In attendance were also passengers and AWA staff.
