Air Peace Clarifies UK Ramp Inspection Findings, Denies Safety Lapses
The Management of Air Peace has refuted recent media reports alleging a safety breach by the airline in the United Kingdom. In a statement, Air Peace described the reports as containing numerous falsehoods intended to instill fear and doubt among passengers.
The airline stated that since the commencement of their inaugural flight to London, their operations have been thoroughly scrutinized by the relevant authorities.
“We welcome this scrutiny as it aligns with our commitment to operational excellence and the safety and security of our passengers,” the statement read. Air Peace confirmed that the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) contacted them following a Ramp Inspection on April 7, 2024, requesting clarification on the use of their Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and other issues. The airline provided the necessary information, resolving the matter without any issues.
“It is incorrect to say we lack approval for our EFB. We have received approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and all our Boeing 777 aircraft are certified to operate with EFBs.”
Regarding the claim that their B777 aircraft lack iPad mounts and charging ports in the flight deck, Air Peace clarified: “All our B777 aircraft are equipped with charging ports in the cockpit, and we ensure they have iPad mounts.”
The airline also addressed another issue raised by the UK CAA about the location of their cockpit library on the B777. “The B777 designates two locations for storing manuals and books: one behind the captain and one under the jumpseat. During the inspection, the books were stored under the jumpseat, which is a common practice. We have since accommodated the inspector’s preference to place the books behind the captain for all operations going forward.”
Additionally, there was a concern about the captain’s choice of runway exit after landing. Instead of exiting at the middle runway exit, the captain opted to exit at the end of the runway, which may have delayed another aircraft’s arrival. Air Peace acknowledged this deviation and has addressed the matter to ensure adherence to preferred exit procedures in the future.
“Ramp inspections are standard procedures conducted by aviation authorities worldwide, and the UK CAA rightly notified the NCAA of their inspection outcomes.”
Air Peace expressed surprise at the exaggerated and sensationalized media reports on a matter that had been resolved with authorities over a month ago.
“It is unprofessional for the media to publish alarmist reports that create public panic and question our safety culture.”
