Discover Airlines connects Africa with first direct flights from Munich to Windhoek

From March 2025, Discover Airlines, a German-carrier, would be introducing flights to a range of new long-haul destinations. The new flights are part of the airline’s significant expansion in operations from Munich Airport.

The new routes include Windhoek, Namibia’s vibrant capital city. The expansion plan is aimed at strengthening Discover Airlines’ position as a prominent leisure carrier at Munich Airport and marks a major milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy. It will also enhance travel options for passengers.

Detailing the flights, the airline noted that from April 1, 2025, it will offer three weekly direct flights from Munich to Windhoek. The flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, providing a convenient schedule for travelers seeking to explore Namibia’s diverse landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique cultural heritage. The incredible African destination is expected to become more accessible than ever with the new route, which is especially noteworthy since it is the first direct link between Munich and Windhoek.

The decision to include Windhoek in Discover Airlines’ flight schedule is part of a broader strategy to expand Lufthansa Group’s offerings at its major German hubs. According to Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, the expansion aims to provide versatile and attractive holiday options, thereby giving travelers more choices.

“With our new long-haul destinations, we are doing just that, offering routes that have never been accessible by direct flight from Munich before or were last accessible many years ago,” Bauer stated.

The inclusion of Windhoek and other new long-haul destinations will boost activity at Munich Airport, which is already a major hub for Discover Airlines. Jost Lammers, chairman of the management board of Munich Airport, emphasized the importance of this expansion, saying: “With the new long-haul leisure routes, Discover Airlines is adding highly attractive intercontinental destinations to the route portfolio at Munich Airport.”

The anticipated expansion will not only enhance the airport’s offerings, but also aligns perfectly with the Lufthansa Group’s network, reinforcing Munich’s status as a critical hub in the global air transport industry.
