Crystal Cruises and Fincantieri finalise new cruise ship order in two-ship deal
The luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises has finalised an order with Italian shipyard Fincantieri for the construction of a new vessel as part of a two-ship order announced in July. The finalisation for the first ship in the deal comes after the cruise line and shipyard agreed on an option to expand the two-ship deal in future.
The new 61,800 gross ton vessel will accommodate approximately 690 passengers in all-suite accommodation with private balconies.
The ship will also feature single-occupancy cabins to cater to solo travellers and will offer one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios in this segment, the company said in a release. Crystal Cruises, formerly owned by Genting Hong Kong, was acquired by A& K Travel Group and Abercrombie & Kent in 2022 following the collapse of its parent company.
Its new owners have invested heavily in the brand, with an order for two 61,800-gross-ton ships that will each carry 690 passengers, making them slightly larger than Crystal Symphony and a little smaller than Crystal Serenity.
The existing two-ship Crystal fleet was also extensively refurbished in 2023, with a larger number of butler suites and reduced guest capacity.
The new vessels ordered from Fincantieri are based on an entirely new design platform, but will incorporate some of the most popular aspects of the current fleet, such as a promenade extending right round the perimeter of the vessel, similar to those aboard Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity.
A variety of dining options will be available on both ships, showcasing a variety of world-class cuisines including Umi Uma, the only Nobu at sea as well as recently announced Beefbar.
Crystal will also continue offering exclusive entertainment along with a sophisticated casino that includes an array of gaming options in an elegant setting aboard both new ships.
Wellness and relaxation will be at the heart of the new ships, with a comprehensive Spa and state-of-the-art fitness center available to all guests, while families traveling with children will have a dedicated area for younger guests.
Prominent architectural firms Studio Ibsen and Studio Gem will be leading the design efforts, along with a third international design firm that is yet to be appointed.
