Minister Unveils Airport Reform Plan
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has officially announced a series of new and innovative initiatives designed to significantly enhance service delivery as well as improve environmental conditions at airports across Nigeria. This announcement comes as part of a broader effort to elevate the standards of the aviation sector in the country and ensure that it meets international benchmarks for quality and safety.
In order to ensure that compliance with the highest standards is rigorously maintained, the Minister, in a detailed statement, has indicated that voluntary Special Airport Marshals will be appointed. These Marshals will be selected from various sectors, including the media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and representatives from various state governments. Their primary role will involve conducting unscheduled inspections at airports, a move aimed at fostering greater oversight and accountability. These specially appointed Marshals will have the important responsibility of reporting their findings directly to the Minister, thereby ensuring a high level of transparency and accountability in the management of airport operations.
This initiative is expected to create a more open environment where issues can be identified and addressed promptly. In addition to this, the Minister, together with key officials from the aviation sector and influential lawmakers, will engage in conducting monthly unscheduled visits to airports located throughout the nation. These visits will not only involve direct participation in airport operations but will also provide an opportunity to engage with airport staff, address any concerns they may have, and promote a culture of professionalism and excellence within the workforce. Through the implementation of these comprehensive measures, the Minister aims to significantly improve the overall airport experience for travelers, making it more efficient and pleasurable. Furthermore, these initiatives are designed to hold airport management accountable for their responsibilities, ensuring that they meet the expectations set forth by both the government and the public. This commitment to accountability and improvement is essential for the growth and development of Nigeria's aviation industry as a whole.
