TAZARA Temporarily Suspends Passenger Train Services in Tanzania TAZARA Temporarily Suspends Passenger Train Services in Tanzania

The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has announced a temporary halt to passenger train services between Dar es Salaam and Mbeya, including the Kilimanjaro Ordinary Train and the Udzungwa train, effective November 29, 2024. This decision comes in response to multiple track closures resulting from over ten unforeseen incidents that have necessitated urgent repairs along various sections of the railway line.

TAZARA anticipates that normal operations will resume in Tanzania by December 12, 2024. The suspension affects key routes, but TAZARA assures that the beach will remain open and accessible during this period.

TAZARA is a bi-national railway jointly owned by the governments of Tanzania and Zambia, stretching 1,860 km from the major East African port of Dar es Salaam to New Kapiri-Mposhi in Zambia's Central Province. This railway connects to Zambia's capital, Lusaka (approximately 200 km away), the Copperbelt province (about 100 km), and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), facilitating significant trade and travel in the region.
